Overview

Why visit Murmansk

Murmansk is the largest city above the Arctic Circle and the gateway to the Kola Peninsula. From autumn to early spring its dark, clear skies make it one of the most accessible places in the world to see the Northern Lights.

Combine aurora hunting with the dramatic coastline of Teriberka on the Barents Sea, husky and reindeer encounters, snowmobile safaris and a visit to the nuclear icebreaker Lenin museum ship.

Best time to visit

For the Northern Lights, travel between late September and March — the darkest months are November to February. In summer (around June) the Midnight Sun shines around the clock.
